5 Things To Do In Tel Aviv That You Won’t Find In The Tourist Brochures

In recent years, Israel has been heavily investing in tourism campaigns to attract more visitors to the country – and rightly so. Anyone who’s ever been will agree that the beauty, history, and diverse culture makes it an unforgettable trip – this combined with the warm hospitality of the locals, it’s understandable that tourists are now flocking to Israel.

However, if you’re someone who relates to being a traveller, not a tourist, then you may be looking for something a bit deeper than a few weeks of sun and partying.

Below we give you some of our favourite things to do in the captivating city of Tel Aviv that you’ll not find in the tourist brochures.

1. Asian Fusion Food:

Asian food is likely not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of food options in Israel, but this country continues to surprise in many delicious ways.

The Asian fusion scene is pretty huge here – amongst locals, that is. Sure, you’re going to find incredible falafel and other local delights on offer in Tel Aviv, and these are definitely worth trying, but if you want to get an idea of how the locals dine, then you’re sure to meet a few of them over a Big-Eye tuna pizza – a mouthwatering twist that perfectly blends pizza and Sashimi.

2. Hit the Southern City Beaches:

Let’s be honest, here: no matter how much of a non-tourist you are, everyone loves and appreciates a little beach time, and with such a stunning array of beaches on offer in Tel Aviv, you’d be crazy to leave without visiting some.

We’ve got you covered, though, and have specially selected the Southern Beaches for you – whilst many tourists typically flock to the Northern coast, for sun, sand and selfies, we want you to have the best of both worlds, and have that beach experience without all the posing tourists there.

Many locals frequent the beaches here – especially “Ajami” and “Banana Beach”. So whether you’re just looking for a little down time on your own, or you’d like to make some new, interesting friends, these places are a must.

3. Live It Up Like A Local:

Tel Aviv is well-known for its great club scene, but as is the problem with all things well-known, good news travels fast.

As always, you needn’t worry about paying tourist prices or bumping into more people from your own country than the one you’re visiting, because whilst the tourist brochures are directing visitors to the more mainstream party spots, we know just the places to go for a more authentic Tel Aviv nightlife experience.

The locals here tend to eat a bit later than what’s considered the norm in other countries, so this means that the parties don’t get started until later in the evenings. This makes for a very relaxed vibe with no rushing around to try and beat curfews or last orders, and one of the best things about going out in Tel Aviv when you know where to go, is that even if you’re alone, you’ll have made loads of new friends by the end of the night.

4.  Great Nights Out Dancing:

Some places to go for a great night of after-hours partying are “Penguin Club” located at Yehuda ha-Levi St 43, Tel Aviv-Yafo, and another hipster place to sway “The Block”, which can be found at Shalma Rd 157, Tel Aviv-Yafo.

5. Shuk Levinsky Market

This large market is a veritable home for the alternative and different way of doing non-touristy things. This is an absolutely authentic market full of hummus, falafel and genuine eastern food stops. For an appetising, inexpensive experience of traditional culinary delights, you need to head for this place, before the tourist hoards plant their flag there.

Of course, these are just a select few of the many incredible things to do in Tel Aviv. There are many more gems to discover –  but it’s always good to have a starting point. Go and explore what the city has to offer with an open mind and a carefree attitude – that way you will take home some memories that will stay with you forever.
