In what can only be described as a huge achievement for one of the UK's favourite seaside towns, worldwide mega-star Britney Spears has announced that she is to bring her highly acclaimed "Piece of Me" show directly from Las Vegas, USA, to play in the resort of Blackpool in Lancashire, UK which has for many years been dubbed "the Vegas of the North".
On September 1st 2018, around 20,000 people will have the chance to see this cabaret spectacle from Britney, who's back catalogue of hits includes "Hit me baby one more time", "Whoops I did it again" and "Toxic", will be wowing the crowd of her many devoted fans.
The 'Promenade Headland', directly opposite the world famous Blackpool Tower, is becoming well known for its concerts and successful events in what is dubbed 'The People's Playground'. Artists such as Bananarama, McFly, Noel Gallagher, Paul Young, Will Smith and a host of others have performed to delighted audiences. Local people remember the only disastrous event there, when Elton John's concert had to be abandoned after only 20 minutes, due to the high storm winds that almost blew the stage into the Irish Sea. Hopefully, Ms Spears will sail through her act without any similar hitches.
Blackpool is famous for supposedly having more tourist beds than the whole of Portugal, with many types of accommodation from the traditional British seaside B&B through to top quality 5* hotels. Since the announcement of the concert was made on 9th February, enquiries for hotel beds have sky-rocketed, as this is one of the busiest weekends of the year, when the famous Blackpool Illuminations are switched on. Many hoteliers in the resort insist on a 2 night minimum stay during the 12 week illuminations period. Over 13 million people a year visit Blackpool with around 9 million coming during the Illuminations time.
The Commercial Director of leading travel site Travelventure.co.uk Antony Oswin, who are based in Blackpool said "Usually its pretty tight to find accommodation at a reasonable price at that time. But we have negotiated special rates to help fans attend this event".
He went on to add "Our early indication is that after only 1 day, almost 40% of the resort's rooms have been booked out solid. People wanting to book should do so as quickly as possible to avoid disappointment, or sky-high prices".
